Carol Douglas
Carol Douglas (* 7. April 1948 as Carol Strickland in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American soul and disco singer. She was best known for the disco classic Doctor's Orders .
Career
Carol Douglas was a member of the Chantels in the early 1970s before starting her solo career in 1974. She achieved her breakthrough in the music business straight away with Doctor's Orders in 1975. The song was originally recorded by singer Sunny just a few months earlier . This version had reached number 7 in the UK. Douglas reached number 11 in the USA, but also number 1 in the disco and 9th in the R&B charts. The recording is counted among the earliest disco songs ever and has sold over a million copies.
Douglas remained a one-hit wonder in the pop charts , and the singer achieved further success in the disco hit lists. There you get other hits with Headline News , A Hurricane Is Coming Tonite (1975), Midnight Love Affair (1976, also number 1), I Wanna Stay With You (1977) and Burnin ' (1978). Her covers of ABBA's Dancing Queen (1977) and Bee Gees ' Night Fever (1978) were also popular. The decline in interest in disco music in the early 1980s also slowly waned Douglas' fame as a singer.
Like countless recordings by other disco artists from the 1970s, Douglas was sampled again and again. For example, the rapper Nas took over parts of the song We Do It (1977) for Remember the Times (2004).
Carol Douglas is a cousin of Sam Cooke .
