Carol Monaghan (born August 2, 1972 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Born in Glasgow in 1972, Monaghan studied physics at the University of Strathclyde and graduated with a bachelor's degree . She then earned a teaching degree in physics and mathematics and worked at various schools in Glasgow. Among other things, she acted as head of department at the Hyndland Secondary School . For two years she was involved as a lecturer in teacher training at the University of Glasgow . Monaghan is a mother of three.

Political career

In the British general election in 2015 , the SNP placed Monaghan as a candidate in the Glasgow North West constituency . She stood up against Labor MP John Robertson , who had held the constituency mandate since it was introduced in 2005. After the SNP won massive votes in these elections, Monaghan achieved the highest share of the vote with 54.5% and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . There she is a member of the Science and Technology Committee . Despite losing votes, Monaghan defended her mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
