Carola Zwick

Carola Zwick (* 1966 in Konstanz ) is a German product designer and professor for design with a focus on design and interaction at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art .

biography

Carola Zwick completed her studies in industrial design at the Hochschule der Künste (HDK) Berlin (today University of the Arts, UdK) with a diploma under Hans Roericht . From 1993 to 1998 she was an artistic and scientific assistant at the HdK Berlin and built the media group “ID5” with industrial designer and UdK professor Burkhard Schmitz.

From 1998 to 2008 she was Professor of Interaction Design at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences . Carola Zwick is co-founder and partner of the internationally active design studio 7.5., Which has been based in Berlin since 1992. In addition to product developments around the topic of work, the studio explores new materials and processes as well as the potential of digital distribution processes in order to develop sustainable product and usage concepts.

In 2008 she was appointed professor for design in the product design department at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. Here she initiated the eLAB laboratory for interactive technologies with designer and artist Zane Berzina and digital media designer Barbara Junge in 2010, an experimental, interdisciplinary research platform to research the creative discourse on the role and potential of information technologies .

Since 2011 she has been Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence Interdisciplinary Laboratory Image Knowledge Design at the Hermann von Helmholtz Center for Cultural Technology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . She is also co-founder of DesignFarmBerlin, a design-in-tech accelerator that has been supporting young designers with a scholarship and mentoring program since 2016 in developing sustainable exploitation strategies for their innovations.
