The Magdeburg-Stendal University is a university of applied sciences ( eng. : University of Applied Sciences ) in Saxony-Anhalt with locations in Magdeburg and Stendal . The university's administrative headquarters are in Magdeburg. The campuses are about 55 kilometers apart.

history

The establishment of the university was decided on July 2, 1991 by the Saxony-Anhalt cabinet. In the winter semester, the first students were enrolled in the social affairs department. In 1992, teaching began at the Stendal site. In 1999 the University of Applied Sciences in Magdeburg moved to its campus between Elbauenpark and the Herrenkrug . On July 19, 2000, the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences and the Altmark University of Applied Sciences were merged and the resulting joint institution was named Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal. A year later, the Stendal campus on Osterburger Strasse was inaugurated and a new cafeteria opened there in 2010. In 2018 there were around 1,700 students in Stendal and 3,700 in Magdeburg.

The departments of water, environment, construction and safety are located at the Magdeburg location of the university of applied sciences; Engineering / industrial design and social work, health and media. The courses offered in 2014 were: Safety and Security (together with the University of Magdeburg ); Civil engineering ; Energy efficient building; Civil engineering , traffic and bridge construction; Electrical engineering; Industrial design; Industrial engineering; Mechatronic system technology; Mechanical engineering; Interaction design; Engineering design; Regenerative and rational building energy systems; Radio identification / short range radio technology (RFID); Journalism; International specialist communication; Specialist interpreting; Social and health journalism; Photo journalism; Legal translation and interpreting; Cross media; Social work; Health promotion and management; Sign language interpreting; Organizational development promoting health ; Social services in the aging society; European Perspectives on Social Inclusion; Health promotion and management in Europe; Interdisciplinary therapy of psychiatric disorders on a psychodynamic basis; Methods of music therapy research and practice; Psychosocial therapy and counseling in the context of children, adolescents and families; Water management; Circular economy; Statistics; Engineering ecology.

The two departments at the Stendal location are economics and applied human sciences. The range of courses in 2014 included: business administration ; Business Administration / Social Security Management; Dual business administration; Risk management; Health care management; Innovative management; Applied Childhood Sciences; Education, upbringing and care for children - management of day-care centers; Rehabilitation psychology.
