The Caroline Bluff is a rock cliff on King George Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is one mile southeast of the North Foreland .
Scottish geologist David Ferguson mapped the cliff in 1921 and named it North Foreland Head . In order to avoid confusion with the North Foreland, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee rejected this designation in 1960 and gave the cliff a new name. It is named after the sealer Caroline under Captain Daniel Taylor with home port in Hobart , Australia , who operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821.
