Caroline Kempter

Caroline (Lina) Kempter (born February 5, 1856 in Illertissen , † August 27, 1925 there ) was a southern German art painter .

Life

Caroline Kempter was the daughter of Max Josef Kempter and his wife Caroline, b. Called. The couple owned an estate in Illertissen and the “Hirsch” inn. As a daughter from a wealthy family, she did not choose the path of a well-to-do wife and mother that was prescribed in the 19th century, but was able to build an independent career as a freelance artist in Munich through training, independent work and assertiveness. Her life is a successful example of the early history of women's emancipation in the late 19th century against the resistance of the existing social order.

  • 1891–1922 Participation in exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace, in the Munich Secession and in the Great Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1891 and 1897 and the Bremen Art Exhibition in 1891
  • 1916–1925 summer and autumn stays with her painting school in Landsberg am Lech

Caroline Kempter died at the age of 69 in Illertissen and was buried in the forest cemetery there. Her gravestone bears the inscription "Caroline Kempter, artist".
