Carolyn Graham

Carolyn Graham (born September 13, 1931 ) is an American language teacher and didactic specialist. She is the author of the language textbooks Jazz Chants and Let's Sing, Let's Chant , published by Oxford University Press . She wrote the songs for Susan Rivers Tini Talk series from ELT Books, also published by OUP.

Graham developed the technique of jazz chanting during her twenty-five years teaching ESL at the American Language Institute at New York University . She has also taught at Harvard University and has held workshops in the NYU School of Education Teachers College of Columbia in New York and Tokyo, and elsewhere in the world. Ms. Graham is the author of numerous Jazz Chants books, all published by Oxford University Press.

Method Jazz Chants by Carolyn Graham

Jazz chants are exercises in which students rhythmically repeat words and short sentences to music. It is a rhythmic expression of natural language that combines the rhythms of spoken American English with the rhythm of traditional American jazz.
