Carolyn Wonderland (born November 9, 1972 in Houston ; real life Carolyn Bradford ) is an American blues rock musician (vocals, guitar, mandolin, trumpet, piano) and songwriter .

Life

Wonderland's father was a singer in a band and her mother played the electric guitar. Carolyn Wonderland made her first appearance at the age of 15. She left Langham Creek High School in Houston early to become a musician. She was a long member of the Imperial Monkeys band. In 1999 she moved to Austin , from 2001 she lived in a camper van as she toured for more than 300 days a year. She plays blues with elements from country , swing , zydeco , gospel and soul , among others . She is usually accompanied by Cole El-Saleh (keyboard, bass, backing vocals) and Kevin Lance (drums, backing vocals).

In 2003 Wonderlands album Bloodless Revolution was released. In 2008 she released the album Miss Understood . It was produced by Ray Benson, the former lead singer of the Imperial Monkeys.

She was a member of various formations, including a founding member of the Loose Affiliation of Saints and Sinners and lead guitarist of the women's band Sis DeVille. She was also a co-founder of the Austin Volunteer Orchestra . In summer 2009 she was a guest at the Rochester International Jazz Festival . In 2016 she performed at the Burghausen International Jazz Week . Wonderland has been a member of John Mayall's band since 2018 . Her singing is compared to Janis Joplin 's, her guitar playing to Stevie Ray Vaughan's .

Wonderland has been married to comedian Alan Whitney Brown since 2011 .
