Carora is a city in the Venezuelan state of Lara . Carora is the administrative seat of the municipality of Torres (Municipio Pedro Leon Torres).
history
Originally, native Americans of the Axaguas tribe who had mixed with Jirajaras lived in this region. Carora was founded twice by the Spanish. Juan de Tejo did it first in 1569. The Spanish village had to be left shortly afterwards because of the attacks by the indigenous people. Juan de Salamanca then re-established it in 1572.
The Church of John the Baptist was built in the early 17th century.
