Remarks

The occasion and eponymous for this composition was a performance of equestrian games (also called Caroussel) in the later room of the demonstrations of the Spanish Riding School . These equestrian games had existed since the Middle Ages and well-known composers such as Joseph Haydn or Ludwig van Beethoven (York March) had contributed compositions to these events. Strauss was inspired by the press reports about this work.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 2 minutes and 41 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
