Carrarzu e Iddia

At the Carrarzu e Iddia site on a rocky promontory west of Bortigali near the road from Bortigali to Mulargia, near Macomer in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia, there is a dolmen , a nuraghe and a protonuraghe in close proximity .

The severely disturbed dolmen consists of a collection of large, flat stones. A capstone covering the eastern part of the chamber in situ is the only sure reference to this Neolithic monument, which is older than the two nearby nuraghi.

The badly damaged nuraghe, only preserved in the lower part, includes the ruins of the tower, a cistern and the remains of round stone huts. The stones used are unusually large (some of them are 1.5 m long) and could have come from the neighboring dolmen or from a completely demolished dolmen.

The protonuraghe of Carrarzu e Iddia is a typical example of a corridoruraghe, the oldest type of nuragic structure in Sardinia. On the other hand, the architectural style is very close to that of the Tholosnuraghen . Large parts of the walls and the corridor are in good condition.

Nearby is the Orolo Nuraghe .
