Life

Carrie Derick was born in Clarenceville in 1862 as the daughter of Frederick Derick, who came from the Eastern Townships of Quebec , and his American wife, Edna Colton. After attending the Clarenceville Academy and the McGill Normal School in Montreal , she was one of the first four women to study in 1884. She received her BA in 1890 from McGill University, began a master's degree and received her MA in 1896 there. She then continued her studies at Bonn University , but in 1901, despite her achievements, she was unable to achieve a doctorate as a woman.
