Cartoons (band)
The cartoons , also known as cartoons DK , were a Danish Bubblegum - Dance - and country-pop band, mainly for their Euro Dance -Cover the song Witch Doctor by Ross Bagdasarian (number two in the UK ) and the title Doodah! (7th place in the UK), both dating from 1998, and best known for their fancy plastic costumes and wigs, which were used as caricatures of American rock and roll stars of the 1950s on live performances.
Band history
The cartoons were originally called The Scooters in the late 1980s and played rockabilly music from the 1950s and 1960s. In 1994 The Scooters released the album Live at Woodstock. In 1997 the group changed their name to cartoons and began to play “Technobilly”, rock 'n' roll mixed with Eurodance. The first album Toonage was released in 1998 and reached number 17 in the UK charts. It was re-released as More Toonage in 1999 . In 2000 the second album, Toontastic , was released .
The band consisted of Martin Østengaard alias Toonie (lead and background voice), Jesper Dukholt alias Sponge (saxophone, keyboard and bass), Erling Jensen alias Shooter (guitar and background voice), Dave Stevens alias Buzz (double bass), Natasja Skov alias Puddy (Background vocals) and Karina Jensen alias Boop (background vocals). The cartoons were produced by Kenneth Bager & Michael Pfundheller.
