Casa Serodine

description

To the side of the church of St. Peter and Paul is the three-story town house with the façade , which is divided by cornices. The middle part shows a Madonna with child, on both sides with an angel, on her left Adam and Eve, with the temptation and the expulsion from paradise. To the right of it David and Bethsheba. The lower frieze probably shows the four seasons. According to Yvone Bölt, the four allegories represent the ages of the people. The reliefs are very three-dimensional. Giovanni Battista Serodine probably learned from Carlo Maderno . An inscription and the year 1620 can be seen above the entrance, the coat of arms is held by two young men. The main entrance leads into the inner courtyard.

The Casa Serodine was restored in 1968 and 1990, it is connected to the literary history of Ticino and Monte Verità . Over time it was the gallery and second-hand bookshop (from 1938 to 1983) of Wladimir Rosenbaum and is now part of the Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna di Ascona . The bookstore Libreria della Rondine, founded by the pianist Leo Kok as an antiquarian bookshop, has been in the house since 1946 .
