The Case-island (or Case Iceland ) is an island off the English coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . The almost round island with a diameter of 19 km is located in Carroll Inlet between the mainland coast and Smyley Island .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1961 and 1966. At the suggestion of the polar explorer Finn Ronne , the island was named after the American politician Francis H. Case (1896–1962), who had campaigned with the US government for the provision of a research vessel for the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948).
