Cassida sanguinolenta is a beetle fromthe leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae). It belongs to the subfamily of the tortoise beetles (Cassidinae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 4–5.5 mm. The pronotum and elytra on the outer edge are curved. The upper side of the beetle ( pronotum and wing covers ) is predominantly green. More mature animals have a red basal triangle on the wing covers. The label is green. The antennae , legs, trochanters , episterns and epimers of the mesonotum as well as the sutures of the wing cover and the broad abdominal border are colored yellow-brown. The ventral side of the beetle is black.
distribution
The beetle species is particularly widespread in Central and Northern Europe. To the south the occurrence extends to Algeria , in the east over Asia Minor and western Siberia to Kyrgyzstan .
Way of life
The beetle species uses various sunflower plants as host and food plants , in particular the common yarrow ( Achillea millefolium ) and tansy ( Tanacetum vulgare ). Both the larvae and the adults feed on their leaves. The adult beetles can be seen from April to August.
