Castelfraiano is an Outbound Höhenburg on the summit of Mount Castelfraiano in 1415 m slm height. It belongs to the Italian municipality of Castiglione Messer Marino in the province of Chieti .
history
The original complex dates from the 12th century and was built near the Minorite monastery complex further down the valley in the municipality of Feudo di Lupara , of which only the Madonna del Monte church remains today. This small hilltop castle monitored the sources of the Sinello and Treste rivers , as well as the access to Monteferrante from the Sangro valley, although its purpose was actually to monitor the path from Ateleta to Biferno , which passes there.
description
According to a relief at the location of the castle ruins, the castle had an enclosure in the form of a trapezoid, on the two short sides of which the remains of a rectangular tower are visible, which was almost leaned against the outer wall and on the opposite side had a protrusion in the middle that was also rectangular. The castle was 25 meters long and 10 meters wide; their footprint was 250 square meters. Presumably a small farmhouse was attached to the main building. Today you can only see ruins.
