Catalina Homar (* 1869 in Esporles , † 1905 in Valldemossa ) was a lover of the Archduke of Austria Ludwig Salvator of Austria-Tuscany .

Life

Homar was born into a simple family as the daughter of a Mallorcan carpenter . She became the long-time lover of the Austrian Archduke, who stayed in Mallorca for a long time. She had hardly received any schooling, but then learned several languages ​​and became an important collaborator of the Archduke and managed his wineries. The Archduke had the S'Estaca country house built for them . He also took Catalina Homar to the Viennese court . During a trip to the Orient together with the Archduke she fell ill with leprosy , from which she died in 1905.

Homar's life was received several times literarily or artistically. In 2002 the opera Catalina Homar by the composer Paul Walter Fürst was premiered. In the 2003 novel Die Nebeldame by Gabriel Janer Manila , Homar's relationship with the Archduke is discussed.
