Cathal Gaffney

Cathal Gaffney (born August 29, 1970 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish director and film producer.

Life

Gaffney studied animation at Ballyfermot Senior College (now Ballyfermot College of Further Education), but did not graduate. In 1994 he founded the film production company Brown Bag Films in Dublin with his former fellow student Darragh O'Connell . He works as a producer and also directed the short animation film Give Up Yer Aul Sins in 2001 . The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2002. Gaffney's second directorial work was the 2007 film Ding Dong Denny O'Reilly's History of Ireland , whose screenplay Gaffney also wrote. In addition to animated films, Gaffney also made commercials.

Gaffney is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts .
