Give Up Yer Aul Sins is a 2001 Irish animated short film directed by Cathal Gaffney .
action
In an elementary school, a man is expected to watch television. Have the children tell him a story from the Bible in front of the camera and let a little girl start telling John the Baptist .
She tells how John the Baptist once asked a wicked woman to repent and confess her sins. However, she did not want to, and when he told her that she would go to Hell this way, she arrested him. John the Baptist asked Jesus through an acquaintance whether he was really God and a saint. Jesus asked the acquaintance to see for himself that the lepers had been healed and the blind could see again. John the Baptist was pleased that Jesus really was God. The malicious woman, however, came into contact with a malicious king who was holding a party and invited the woman to it. There the king asked her to dance for him, and she danced a little for him and was allowed to have a wish come true. She did not choose gold jewelry or an expensive wristwatch, but wanted the head of Johannes, who was then beheaded.
The girl's tale is over. The school lesson ends and the children run noisily out of the classroom.
production
Give Up Yer Aul Sins was encouraged to produce original audio documents: Peig Cunningham interviewed school classes in Dublin in the 1960s on subjects related to the Bible. The tapes were only rediscovered decades later and released on CD by EMI. The CD received quintuple platinum. The film uses one of these stories by a young schoolgirl who deals with John the Baptist and animates the story, which is often imaginatively decorated, in sepia tones. The framework story with the teacher, who prepares the children for the recording and at the end comments on the noise of the children, was recorded afterwards. The teacher will be dubbed by Maria McDermottroe .
Awards
At the Irish Film and Television Awards , Give Up Yer Aul Sins won an IFTA Award in the “Best Animation” category. The film also received three awards at the Cork International Film Festival , including two jury awards .
Give Up Yer Aul Sins was in 2002 for an Oscar in the category " animated Best Short Film nomination," but could not against the Birds prevail.
