The Cathay United Bank (Chinese:國泰世華銀行) is the largest commercial bank in the Republic of China (Taiwan) with more than 165 stores throughout Taiwan. It is part of Cathay Financial Holding its total assets at 288 billion in 2017 dollars was, so it was the largest financial institution in Taiwan. The holding company is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange .

history

Cathay United Bank was formerly known as the United World Chinese Commercial Bank (UWCCB; Chinese: 世華 聯合 商業 銀行), which was founded in 1975.

In 2003 the UWCCB was merged with the former Cathay Commercial Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Financial Holding Company. UWCCB was the surviving bank, but the merged bank was renamed Cathay United Bank.

The bank has departments and subsidiaries in the People's Republic of China , Cambodia , Laos , Malaysia , Malaysia, Myanmar , the Philippines , Singapore , Thailand and Vietnam . The bank is a major investor in Southeast Asia. In 2016 it became known that the Philippine Rizal Commercial Banking Corp , from which Cathay United had bought shares, was connected with a robbery on a bank in Bangladesh in which $ 81 million were stolen, the President of Cathay United resigned in May 2016.
