Cathedral is an American progressive rock band.

history

Bassist Fred Callan and keyboardist Tom Toncourt played in a psychedelic rock band called Odyssey in the first half of the 1970s . When this broke up in 1975, they founded Cathedral with other musicians. Originally also arrested in psychedelic rock, the band developed under the influence of genre greats such as King Crimson , Yes , Genesis and Gentle Giant towards prog rock.

The band recorded a second album called Epilogue in the late 1970s , which was never released due to lack of interest from record companies. A little later the band split up.

Guitarist Perrone and drummer Caronia played in the new wave band industry in the 1980s , which released two albums on Capitol Records .

In 2003 the band reformed with the original line-up. In 2006 she went to a studio to record; at that time Perrone left the band and was replaced by David Doig, owner of a music school near New York. In 2007 the self-produced album The Bridge was released . In 2008 the band signed a contract with the French label Musea Records , but no further album was released.

The Swedish prog rock band Änglagård names Cathedral as an influence.

style

In terms of music, Cathedral orientated themselves mainly towards the British progressive rock band Yes - both in terms of composition and instruments ( Mellotron , Rickenbacker- Bass, etc.). On their album Stained Glass Stories (1978), there are clear parallels to the Yes album Tales from Topographic Oceans .
