The Cathedral of Learning is a skyscraper in Pittsburgh and the main building of the University of Pittsburgh . The Cathedral of Learning is not in downtown , but a few kilometers outside in the district of Oakland.

At 163 meters, it is the second tallest university building in the world after Lomonosov University in Moscow and the second tallest building in the neo-Gothic style after the Woolworth Building in New York .

Construction began in 1926 and was only completed in 1936 after eleven years of construction. In comparison, the significantly taller and larger Bank of Manhattan Company Building (now The Trump Building) was ready after just eleven months.

The architect of the skyscraper is Charles Klauder .
