Catherine Rollier (born January 2, 1955 in Biel-Bienne ) is a Swiss artist and graphic designer. She lives and works in Vienna.

life and work

Catherine Rollier spent her childhood and youth in Biel-Bienne and Winterthur . There were first encounters with contemporary music and museums and collections offered an initial examination of impressionism and classical modernism. In 1972 the family moved to Basel. Catherine Rollier decided to study at the Basel School of Design in 1973 . Its focus was on the conceptual design and its expansion up to the experimental level, it was also committed to the craft. The preliminary course was followed by a four-year training in the graphics class, which was headed by Armin Hofmann and which she graduated with a diploma in 1978. Other teachers such as Mary Viera or the typographer Wolfgang Weingart shaped the artist.

In 1980 Catherine Rollier decided to move to Vienna and founded her studio there. Until now, fascinated by the local culture and architecture scene, her personal interest in the movement of contemporary music characterizes the conceptual design approach of her graphic and visual artistic work. In creative research, she continuously develops her artistic oeuvre with serial picture compositions.

In her work as a graphic designer, she specialized in the arts and culture. Among other things, she designed the corporate design for the MAK, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts under the direction of Peter Noever, posters for the Schauspielhaus Wien, art catalogs and numerous architectural publications for, for example, Carl Pruscha , Hans Hollein , Günther Feuerstein and Coop Himmelblau . We have worked with international literary and art publishers for many years. Catherine Rollier has been imparting her experience as a lecturer at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz since 2006 .
