Cato Falck Guntveit (born August 6, 1975 in Bergen ) is a former Norwegian football player .
Club career
Career start in Norway
Guntveit began his career in the youth of the Bergen-based sports club Fana IL. In 1995 he made the jump to the big club Brann Bergen, where he signed his first professional contract.
Under coach Hallvar Thoresen he developed into a regular player. When he had to vacate his place for successor Kjell Tennfjord, he lost his regular place to the already established Geirmund Brendesæther and Morton Pedersen, who were favored by the coach. When Brann was allowed to celebrate the runner-up title in the 1997 season, he only made 13 season appearances, most of which he completed as a substitute. The following season Brann had a catastrophic false start to the season, which cost Tennfjord the job. Guntveit's situation changed suddenly when Harald Aabrekk was hired as coach. This trained him from a defensive player to an offensive wing player, which gave him a regular place again. In 1999 Brann had with third place in the league and reaching the Norwegian Cup final, in which they were defeated 2-0 against Rosenborg Trondheim , again almost the success of past days. Guntveit played a big part in this success with strong performances and aroused the interest of other clubs. When Aabrekk switched to the Norwegian national team in a row , he did not renew at Brann, but moved to Scotland for Aberdeen FC on a free transfer .
Three years in Scotland
Aberdeen's Danish coach Ebbe Skovdahl signed two other Norwegians for the season, Arild Stavrum and Thomas Solberg , which made it easier for him to integrate into the team. In Aberdeen, he had a regular place from the start and performed well. His achievements were only overshadowed by countless injuries, which briefly demoted him to a viewer. When he was seriously injured in the 2001/02 season and was only able to play 18 championship games, his contract was terminated at the end of the season. Aberdeen was in financial trouble and could no longer afford the expensive legionnaire.
Return to Brann
He then moved back home and signed another time with Brann Bergen. However, it was not until 2003 that he could celebrate his comeback in the Tippeligaen . The injury gained in Aberdeen times forced him to sit out the entire 2002 season. As a result, he gained a regular place in the defense of Brann. In 2004 he was named captain by his former teammate and current coach, Mons Ivar Mjelde . In this role, he led his team in the same year to win the Norwegian Cup title, which was the first title win for Brann since 1982.
When the Norwegian national team captain Martin Andresen was signed as a star player by Brann for the 2005 season, everything pointed to a transfer of Guntveits as captain of the team. But coach Mjelde once again relied on Guntveit as the lead player before fate struck again. Guntveit was seriously injured again and was out for almost a year and a half. It was not until halfway through the 2007 season that he found his way back to the team and played 16 games this season. In the meantime, his captaincy was transferred to Andresen due to his long absence. In the 2008 season he was again able to complete only 13 missions due to several injuries, whereupon rumors of his retirement at the end of the season arose. However, Guntveit extended his contract until 2010 during the season.
From 2011 to 2015 he let his career come to an end with the lower-class Norwegian club Øystese IL , for which he was used 38 times in five seasons before he finally ended his playing career.
