Catter House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Catter House is a mansion near the Scottish town of Drymen in the Stirling Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The associated stables and gardens are separately classified as category C monuments.

history

Presumably at the same location there has been a mansion of the Lennox clan since 1505 . It is possible that fragments of the older mansion were integrated in the construction of the Catter House. There are no visible remains of this today. Catter House was built in 1767 and probably expanded around 1800.

Two curved outside staircases with twisted wrought iron balusters lead to the central entrance portal, which is designed with cornices and window frames. The rear facade is three axes wide. There is a flatter extension. 4-, 8- or 24-part lattice windows are embedded along the facade . The final platform roof is covered with gray slate. There are cast-iron skylights.
