The Center for Nanotechnology Münster (CeNTech) in Heisenbergstrasse

The Center for Nanotechnology Münster (CeNTech) is one of the first centers for nanotechnology in Germany. It was founded in 2001 in Münster , Westphalia , and opened in 2003. Due to the strong research in the field of nanotechnology , it works closely with the Westphalian Wilhelms University and many other actors from the Münster nanobioanalytics cluster. In addition to basic research, CeNTech also provides assistance in setting up companies and provides office and laboratory space. It also offers training and further education measures in the field of nanotechnology.

history

CeNTech II has been expanding the capacities of the Center for Nanotechnology since January 2012. The Technologiehof Münster is on the left.

The Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech) resulted from a cooperation between the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU) and the city of Münster. After it was founded in 2001 and opened in 2003, it was one of the first institutions in Germany where biologists, chemists, physicists and medical professionals as well as companies found the conditions for interdisciplinary cooperation. The initiators' focus was on promoting research in the field of nanotechnology and promoting company spin-offs.

In 2005 CeNTech organized the first NanoBio-Europe, before Münster again acted as host in 2007 and 2010 after Barcelona and Grenoble. In 2014, NanoBio-Europe will take place in Münster for the fourth time. At the time, it resulted from NanoBioTec (Münster, 2000–2003) and NanoBiotechnologies X-France (Paris, Grenoble, 2000–2003) as the new leading European congress for cutting-edge nanobiotechnological research and applications. In 2016, CeNTech, on behalf of the Münster Economic Development Corporation, organized the first-ever NRW Nano Conference in Münster with the NanoMikroWerkstoffePhotonik.NRW cluster and the NRW Ministry of Science .

In January 2012, the CeNTech, which was occupied with eight research and development work groups, nine companies and 100 employees on 2,400 m², was extended by a building. CeNTech II with 1,300 m² of usable space cost a total of 7.2 million euros. Five million euros came from the state from the economic stimulus package II, with 2.2 million euros from the WWU for chemistry, physics and biology laboratories. The laboratories were acquired by the WWU scientists through third-party funding.

After 2008, at the end of 2012, CeNTech was again awarded the contract as consortium leader in the state cluster "NanoMikroWerkstoffePhotonik.NRW". The commitment from the NRW Ministry of Science is valid for two and a half years and can be extended to four. The cluster is intended to make optimal use of the great potential of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the fields of nano, micro, innovative materials and photonics. State and EU are funding with 2.2 million euros. The cluster office is operated by NMW Management GmbH in Düsseldorf.

Scientific environment

The Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech) is located in the Münster Science Park in the vicinity of the Technologiehof with Technologieförderung Münster GmbH and technology-oriented companies, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine , the European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI) and the Münster University of Applied Sciences . The physical, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical institutes of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster , the University Hospital of Münster and the battery research center "Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology" (MEET) of the University of Münster are also in the vicinity . The Nano-Bioanalytik-Zentrum Münster (NBZ), which opened in January 2012 and is home to small and medium-sized high-tech companies, is an important addition to the basic research at CeNTech. The Center for Soft Nanoscience (SoN) at the University of Münster , which was inaugurated in November 2018, also complements the infrastructure.

Awards

The scientific director of the Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech), Harald Fuchs , received the Friedrich-Emich-Badge of the Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry (ASAC) in 2009 .

Since December 2011 the Münster Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech) has had the title "Place of Progress".
