Cecil Yates

William Cecil Yates (born May 18, 1912 in Thurber , Texas , † March 1987 in Buckeye , Arizona ) was an American track cyclist .

Cecil Yates was a professional cyclist from 1934 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1949 and a specialist in six-day racing . He started in a total of 50, all in North America, and won 16. He was on the podium in 26 other six-day races. Among his partners were drivers like Heinz Vopel , Gustav Kilian and William Peden . He also won national titles on the track .

Yates was a sporty all-rounder who, in addition to cycling, also operated American football and car racing. In 2007, Cecil Yates was posthumously inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame .
