Cecilia Island ( Spanish Isla Torre 'Tower Island' ) is a small island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is the southernmost in the group of Aitcho Islands in the English Strait between Greenwich Island and Robert Island .
The American seal hunter John Davis , who called the South Shetland Islands with the Huron between 1820 and 1822 , named the strait known today as the English Strait as Cecilia Strait . It was named after the sloop Cecilia , which accompanied the Huron on her voyage. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred Davis' designation to the island described here in 1961 because of the establishment of the English Strait.
