The Sulawesi barn owl ( Tyto rosenbergii ) is a species from the barn owl family . The species occurs in two subspecies exclusively on Sulawesi .
features
The Sulawesi barn owl reaches a body length of 41 to 50 centimeters. It reaches the size of the New Holland owl , but has more cross bars on its wings and also has a reddish-brown border around its whitish face veil . The upper side of the body is brown-gray with larger reddish-brown areas of color and with isolated spots that are white on the lower half and black on the top. On the underside of the body it is pale yellow with brown spots. The feet are unusually strong. The only other barn owl species in its range is the Minahassa barn owl , which, however, is significantly smaller with a body size of 27 to 31 centimeters.
The habitat of the Sulawesi barn owl are rainforests, tree-lined regions and semi-open landscapes. It is also found in agricultural areas as well as near human settlements. Their height distribution ranges from the lowlands to an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level.
The food spectrum of this nocturnal owl has not been conclusively investigated. Rats and voles, among other things, are documented on the basis of the vault. Presumably a number of smaller vertebrates belong to the prey spectrum. Little is known about reproductive biology. The number of stocks has not been determined either. However, it is considered a widespread species on Sulawesi that does not suffer as much from the deforestation that takes place on these islands.
