Common bream

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

Two genera of sea fish were designated as snout bream or lax fish, which today are counted among the sea bream (Sparidae). Until recently, under the scientific name Centracanthidae, they were an independent family within the perch relatives (Percomorphaceae).

features

They are 20 to 38 centimeters long fish that live in the eastern Atlantic , the Mediterranean and the coasts of South Africa . They feed on plankton, which they filter out of the water with their six gill rays. Your upper jaw can be pushed forward very far. All types have 24 vertebrae .

Fin formula : dorsal XI – XIII / 9 - 17, anal III / 9 - 16

species

Nine species in two genera were counted among the snouted bream:

Systematics

In a study on the internal systematics of sea bream it was found that the Sparidae are monophyletic only when including the genus Spicara from the family of snout bream . In October 2015 this was also determined for Centracanthus and the family Centracanthidae was synonymous with the Sparidae (sea bream) .
