Center de documentation de la musique contemporaine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Center de documentation de la musique contemporaine (Cdmc) is a public documentation center for contemporary music in Paris, founded in 1977 . It has been located not far from the Cité de la musique on place de la Fontaine-aux-Lions in Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of Paris since 1993 .

history

The documentation center goes back to an initiative of the music director in the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication , Jean Maheu , who in 1976 set up a commission of institutions and people to promote contemporary music. The work led to the establishment of two institutions: the Center de documentation de la musique contemporaine and the Musique française d'aujourd'hui .

The Cdmc was founded in November 1977 and opened in February 1978. In addition to Jean Maheu, Jean-Loup Tournier ( SACEM ) and Pierre Vozlinsky ( Radio France ) also played a major role . The Cdmc has been financially supported by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the music collecting society SACEM since the beginning. Radio France supported the facility by making copies of its own recordings.

In July 1993 the center moved to the Parc de la Villette not far from the Cité de la musique. An interface for contemporary music was established in 2007 with the participation of IRCAM , the Cité de la musique, the Paris Conservatory , the Ensemble intercontemporain and the Médiathèque Musicale Mahler . The CDMC acts as a music information center and regularly holds events, seminars and exhibitions.

Marianne Lyon was the founding director of the Cdmc until 2007 . She was followed by Laure Marcel-Berlioz . In 2019 Agnès Prétrel became the new director.
