Centro Intercultural de Documentación

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Centro Intercultural de Documentación ( CIDOC , German: Intercultural Documentation Center) was originally an educational institution founded by Ivan Illich in 1965 to train development workers and missionaries for Latin America .

The seat of the CIDOC was in Cuernavaca ( Mexico ), on the Rancho Tetela .

Activity and orientation

Spanish, the history of social institutions and their problems and much more were taught at the CIDOC. The center employed between 300 and 400 people (students and lecturers). Paulo Freire was a frequent guest at the CIDOC .

CIDOC has been called "Center for Subversion called" because there liberation pedagogical conceptions Illich as the " deschooling of society" and criticism of the "rule of experts " were represented in education. Representatives of liberation theology and philosophy such as Enrique Dussel also worked at the CIDOC.

After ten years, Illich dissolved the facility because he was of the opinion that the incomparable aura of this place could not be maintained over the long term, as institutions “clump together”.

Publications

Ivan Illich edited the series of publications CIDOC Cuadernos , CIDOC Dossier and CIDOC Sondeos on issues of social change in Latin America with an edition of 200 to 300 copies .
