The Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea - CDEC ( Documentation Center for Contemporary Jewish History ) is an independent institute in Milan ( Italy ), in which historical and cultural events of the Jewish-Italian population are documented and archived.

This documentation center was founded in 1955 on the initiative of the Association of Jewish Youth in Venice ( Federazione Giovanile Ebraica Italiana ). According to the constitution of the institute established in 1957, anti-Semitic writings as well as evidence of the Jewish resistance are treated objectively and archived.

Archivists and researchers have been working on a voluntary basis in the Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea Foundation since 1986 . Michele Sarfatti headed this institution from 2002 to 2016 . His successor is the historian Gadi Luzzatto Voghera.

The historical center is a learning and research facility that is divided into the following departments with specific interests:

  • Library
  • Video library
  • Historical archive
  • Damage documentation
  • Didactics of the Holocaust

The historical archive in particular, which works with international foundations such as the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem , is important for the mutual recognition of nations .

The CDEC is also an official agency of the Austrian Memorial Service .
