Cereus horrispinus is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet horrispinus means 'bristly thorny'.
description
Cereus horrispinus grows tree-shaped, is only slightly branched and reaches heights of growth of up to 5 meters. The cylindrical, blue-green shoots turn olive-green with age. There are four to five rounded ribs . The elongated areoles on it are very felty. The single, strong, sub- spine is whitish gray with a darker base and reaches a length of up to 10 centimeters. The six to seven radial spines are colored like the central spines and up to 2.5 inches long.
The white flowers are up to 9 inches long. The spherical to elongated fruits are pink in color.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cereus horrispinus is common in northern Colombia and Venezuela . The first description was published in 1930 by Curt Backeberg .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
