Coordinates: 52 ° 56 ′  S , 69 ° 17 ′  W Cerro Sombrero is a Chilean settlement in the north of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego , located in the municipality of Primavera , of which it is the capital, in the province of Tierra del Fuego , Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena . The settlement is located 125 km northwest of Porvenir , 42 km from the coast. According to the 2002 census, Cerro Sombrero had 687 inhabitants.

The settlement got its name ("Huthügel") after a nearby hill. Cerro Sombrero was founded in 1958 as a housing estate by the Empresa Nacional del Petróleo . In addition to the ENAP offices, Cerro Sombrero also has leisure facilities, restaurants, a church, a botanical garden, a hospital and an airfield ( IATA airport code : SMB, ICAO code : ICSB). Cerro Sombrero is considered the "jewel" of modern architecture in Chile.
