Certificaat Nederlands as Vreemde Taal (CNaVT)

The Certificaat Nederlands als Vreemde Taal (CNaVT) (German "Certificate Dutch as a Foreign Language") is an official, internationally recognized Dutch certificate developed by employees of the Catholic University of Leuven . The CNaVT consists of five independent exams, which are based on language levels A2 to C1 of the Council of Europe's Framework of Reference (GER).

The Dutch language skills are tested in three parts A, B and C :

  1. Deel A (luisteren en schrijven) (listening and writing)
  2. Deel B (lezen en schrijven) (reading and writing)
  3. Deel C (spreken en geprekken voeren) (speaking and having conversations)

Levels

Maatschappelijk Informeel (Socially Informal)

The level formerly called Profiel Toeristische en Informele Taalvaardigheid (Profile Language Skills in Tourism and Everyday Life) corresponds roughly to language level A2 and is aimed at language beginners who want to use Dutch in everyday and private social life. A general and detailed understanding of, as well as the extraction of information from short, everyday texts is expected. Simple personal phrases need to be written by yourself.

Maatschappelijk Formeel (Social Formal)

The level formerly known as Profiel Maatschappelijke Taalvaardigheid (profile social language skills) corresponds roughly to language level B1 and is tailored to people who want to live in the Netherlands or Belgium for a longer period and are interested in the Dutch language, the culture and the country and people. Compared to Maatschappelijk informeel , the texts are longer, but clearly and clearly structured and more formal. Relevant topics are: bank, theater, restaurant, hospital, public media such as radio and newspapers and the like.

Zakelijk Professioneel (Business Professional)

The level formerly known as Profiel Professionele Taalvaardigheid (profile professional language skills) corresponds roughly to language level B2 and is intended for candidates who want to use Dutch in everyday work, especially in health care and administrative professions. It is aimed at people in the administrative or service sector (e.g. secretary , bank employee, receptionist ). Relevant topics are: office, meeting / conference, product presentation.

Educatief Startbekwaam (basic education)

The level formerly known as Taalvaardigheid Hooger Onderwijs (language proficiency in higher education) is aimed at candidates who want to study at a Dutch- speaking university or college and is roughly equivalent to B2.

Educatief Professioneel (professional education)

The level formerly known as Academic Taalvaardigheid (Academic and Professional Language Skills ) is aimed both at candidates who are at the end of their studies in "Dutch as a Foreign Language" or who would like to work as teachers for "Dutch as a Foreign Language", as well as at academics who are want to work at university. The required language level corresponds roughly to C1. Relevant topics are: lectures and seminars, self-study of specialist literature, discussions, etc.
