Cesare Pasini

Cesare Pasini (born February 3, 1950 in Milan ) is an Italian clergyman, manuscript researcher and librarian . He has been Prefect of the Vatican Library since 2007 .

After his ordination in 1974 he studied from 1974 to 1977 at the Pontificio Istituto Orientale a Roma; 1979 received his doctorate in Scienze Ecclesiastiche Orientali . From 1978 to 1989 he taught patrology at the seminary in Saronno . Since 1986 he has been a member of the academic staff of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana ( Collegio dei Dottori ), and in November 1995 he was appointed Vice-Prefect of the library. Since April 24, 2003 he has also been director of the Accademia di Sant'Ambrogio . On June 25, 2007 he was by Benedict XVI. Appointed Prefect of the Biblioteca Vaticana in 2007. Since 2010 he has been a corresponding member of the Central Management of Monumenta Germaniae Historica .

Pasini's specialties are Greek palaeography and hagiography .
