Alexander Abramovich Belavin

Alexander “Sascha” Abramowitsch Belavin ( Russian Александр Абрамович Белавин , scientific transcription: Aleksandr Abramovič Belavin, English transliteration: Alexander Belavin ; * 1942 ) is a Russian theoretical physicist.

Belavin made his physics diploma with MW Terentjew and then worked from 1967 to 1970 on his doctorate on the theory of weak interaction with I. Kobzarew at the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP) in Moscow . He is a professor at the Independent University in Moscow and a scientist at the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics .

In 1975, together with Alexander Polyakov , Albert S. Schwarz and Tjupkin, Belawin introduced instantons , vacuum solutions of classic Yang-Mills theories in Euclidean space-time, which can be interpreted as tunnel solutions between topologically different vacuums in normal space-time. You are in theories of Quark - confinement investigated, and that was the motive for the original explorers. In the early 1980s he dealt with integrable (that is, exactly solvable) two-dimensional relativistic theories, investigated classical and quantum R-matrices and introduced elliptical R-matrices. With Vladimir Drinfeld , who later defined the term quantum group from these and subsequent studies , he classified classic R-matrices. With Polyakov and Alexander Samolodtschikow he wrote a fundamental work on conformal field theories in 1984.

In 2007 he received the Pomeranchuk Prize . In 2011 he received the Lars Onsager Prize with Samolodtschikow and Polyakow
