The Ch'ŏllima steel mills (천리마 제철소) are a state-owned steel mill in Namp'o North Korea .
history
The original steel mill was built in 1939 and initially produced 10,000 tons of steel. The factory was destroyed in August 1945. On October 9, 1945, Kim Il-sung visited the plant and requested that it be rebuilt. Production was ramped up in December. After it was destroyed again in the Korean War, it had to be rebuilt.
The name goes back to the Ch'ŏllima movement of the post-war period. The names United Steelworks Ch'ŏllima and Stahlwerk Kangson are also in use.
Products
Ordinary steel as well as rolled steel is produced with an annual capacity of 760,000 tons. The iron comes from mines in the cities of Yonwon , Chongdong and Kae'chŏn .

Ch'ŏllima United Steel Mills is located in Ch'ŏllima-gun County , which is part of P'yŏngan-namdo Province . It is located directly on Taedong-gang .
Remarks
The steel mills are one of the largest companies in North Korea and can also be visited by foreign tourists. Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un sometimes carried out an "inspection" here several times.
