Chahar (language)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chahar-Mongolian (Ch. Měnggǔyǔ Cháhā'ěr fāngyán蒙古语 察哈尔 方 音 or Cháhā'ěr fāngyán察哈尔 方言) is a dialect of Mongolian spoken by the Mongolian ethnic group of the Chahar . It is the variety used in Inner Mongolia as the pronunciation norm in the People's Republic of China . It is spoken, for example, in Ulanqab and, according to the official dialect classification, also in Xilin Gol (which is considered to be an independent variety elsewhere). The language used in official contexts in the Mongolian Republic is Chalcha-Mongolian . The Chahar-Mongolian is partly counted as "Peripheral Mongolian" [mvf] (see web link).
