history

The founding of the original paper mill on the Lorze goes back to 1657. Until 1912, paper was only produced using simple means at the Cham site. In this year the Cham AG paper mill is founded and from then on the company produces on a large scale. In 1972 the company was reorganized under the umbrella of Industrieholding Cham AG and the real estate was spun off as a separate division to Hammer AG. In 1987 the industrial holding Cham went public. In 1993 Hammer AG and Retex AG were merged to form Hammer Retex AG. In the same year the company expanded to Italy with the takeover of Cartiera di Carmignano SpA and in 1999 to Norway with the takeover of Hunsfos Fabrikker AS. The real estate area was expanded in 2002 with the takeover of Hans Schmidlin AG and in 2006 with the takeover of Wohnbau Zürich AG. At the end of 2008, Hunsfos Fabrikker AS was sold to Bavaria Industriekapital AG. In 2009, the real estate division combined in Hammer Retex Holding AG was spun off and Industrieholding Cham AG was renamed Cham Paper Group Holding AG .

Cham Paper Group Holding AG sold its specialty paper business to the Sappi Group in February 2018 . Since then it has only been active as a real estate company and changed its name to Cham Group AG. The "Papieri" area in Cham covers around eleven hectares. This real estate area is to be developed into a new district of Cham with apartments and commercial space in the next 10-15 years. The subsidiary Cham Immobilien AG is responsible for the development, construction, management and, depending on the life cycle, optimized usage strategy of the property.
