Chammat Gader
Chammat Gader ( Hebrew חַמַּת גָּדֵרor Aramaic חמתא דגדר Chammata deGader , German for 'thermal spring at the border' ) is located on the Golan Heights and on the Jarmuk , a few meters from the Jordanian border.
history
The springs with a temperature of up to 50 ° C, mostly 42 ° C, were bordered by the Romans around 200 . The Greeks called the place Ἑμμαθά (Emmatha) or Αμαθα (Amatha); the Arabic name wasالحمة السورية.
From 1904 to 1948 the old Jezreel Valley Railway served the local train station and connected the place with Haifa and Hejaz Railway . After the Six-Day War in 1967, Israelis also had free access to the thermal springs, which in 1977 turned the place into a popular health resort. In addition, a game reserve with crocodiles , alligators , caimans and gavials was established there.
