Champion (motorcycle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Champion was the brand name of a German manufacturer of racing and touring motorcycles in Radolfzell on Lake Constance in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg .

The company existed between 1926 and 1933 and probably built 50 of these racing and touring machines in the workshop of the Radolfzell tractor manufacturer Julius Maier in Löwengasse, "Tractorsmaier" .

The only example of the Champion racing motorcycle brand that still exists today belongs to Manfred Schiller from Radolfzell and is located in the Meßkirch Oldtimer Museum, where 30 motorcycles are exhibited in their original condition.

Manfred Schiller owned a good 40 motorcycles before he sold most of them in 1973, including the Champion. Willi Kornmayer, chairman of the Singen Oldtimer Club, took care of the motorcycle, which was dismantled into individual parts. When Kornmayer wanted to sell the completely restored Champion in 2004, Schiller withdrew the right of first refusal . After the motorcycle was seen in a shop window in Radolfzell for a few weeks, it is now on permanent loan in the Meßkircher Oldtimermuseum .

The racing motorcycle, built in 1926, has a British Villiers engine "TT-Super-Sports" with 172 cubic centimeters , was never approved for road traffic and showed its skills in the Schienerberg races , among other things .
