The Oldtimermuseum Meßkirch in Baden-Württemberg Meßkirch is located since 1999 in the carriage house , the former horse and carriage barn of the historical Meßkircher castle and will be exhibited in a basement room in the south-east wing, where motorcycles. The museum is closed in the winter months, from April to October it is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Group tours are possible all year round by prior arrangement.

history

The museum is operated by the Association of Oldtimer Friends Meßkirch und Umgebung e. V. In 1999 the association was able to open the ground floor of the museum, and in 2001 the top floor was added. This was preceded by seven years of expansion and conversion of the former coach house into a museum by the association itself. The remise, like the castle itself, still belongs to the city of Meßkirch. The association only pays a symbolic rent of 50 euros to the city, but is responsible for maintaining the building.

Exhibits

The museum currently houses 20 automobiles and 80 motorcycles in their original condition, with the focus of the exhibition on the ground floor being on vintage cars and historic sports cars from the period between 1928 and the 1970s and the upper floor showing motorcycles from the period between 1913 and the 1950s. All vehicles on display belong to association members who make them available for one or more years.

Showpieces of the exhibition are the only surviving example of the racing motorcycle brand Champion produced in Radolfzell from the 1930s, a hundred-year-old motorcycle and one of the rare examples of the Messkirch post-war car brand Veritas :
The vehicle, built in 1949, is a silver-colored Veritas Saturn Coupé with a six-cylinder in-line engine with 80 hp. The basic model for the car built in Meßkirch was the BMW 326 . Only 27 copies of the Saturn Coupé were built. The body of the car was manufactured and assembled by the Spohn company in Ravensburg , the chassis comes from the Veritas factory in Meßkirch.

A comfortable Veritas convertible Skorpion from Dettenhausen was completely restored in 2000 to 3000 hours of work. The car, built in 1950, of which only seven were made, stands on a BMW 328 chassis with the corresponding six-cylinder engine from 1937. New headlights come from VW, the door handles from Opel, the ignition lock from a 170 Mercedes-Benz ; the car does not have a handbrake. The blue sports car was seen on October 7, 2005 as a prop for the Hofmann siblings in the television series “The Most Beautiful Years of My Life” on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR).

The oldtimer museum also houses a Hanomag Cabrio 4/23 from 1931 and, as a special feature, the world's only preserved Schakomobil on the upper floor . This four-seater small car with plastic body is a prototype of the Messkirch company Ferdinand Schad (Schako) from 1957. The construction of this vehicle was stopped shortly after the death of the company founder Ferdinand Schad.
