Changeling: The Dreaming (German title Changeling: The Dream ) is a pen - & - paper role-playing game in the set in the fictional game world world of darkness is located (World of Darkness). The series was published by the US publisher White Wolf . Of Feder und Schwert , however, only the land register and an adventure were published as a translation, and a separate volume was published across Germany.
The game comes from the "Classic World of Darkness" and deals with the myth of fairies or changeling. Within the “new World of Darkness”, the game Changeling: The Lost deals with a comparable topic.
Background in the game world
With the spread of science, rational thinking and the associated abandonment of belief in magic, life in the world became increasingly difficult for the fairies . This phenomenon is called banality . Some fairies left the world entirely to retreat to Arcadia , a mystical homeworld. Other fairies decided to take the path of the changeling and made sure that their fairy souls were reborn in human bodies.
Such a changeling, a person with a fairy soul, becomes aware of this fairy soul through an epiphany that usually takes place in childhood. From this point on, the person lives as a changeling in two worlds - the "normal" reality and the dream .
For the changeling, therefore, certain incidents that are invisible to normal people are factually real and he has to face them. An example given in the set of rules for this situation is the fight against a being real in the dream, a chimera , such as B. Kite that takes place in a parking lot. For normal people this would look like playing people who react to an invisible being, for people who are aware of the dream, however, both the fairy souls of the changeling and the chimerical dragon would be real.
In addition to the differences between the changeling and normal people, the land register also describes their feudal social system.
