Feder & Schwert GmbH is a Cologne publisher for fantastic literature . The publisher became known in particular for the German translation of various role-playing products from the world of darkness , such as Vampire: Die Maserade and its successor Vampire: Requiem .
history
The publishing house, founded in 1989, initially devoted itself to the horror , SF and fantasy genres. Some games that Feder & Schwert made popular in Germany were implemented as a computer game by Activision and Interplay (" Vampire: Die Maserade - Redemption " or " Hunter: The Reckoning ") and even by Aaron Spelling as a television series (" Clan der Vampire ") Adapted. In 2001, the role-playing game Engel , its own multimedia game product, came onto the market. Also in 2001 F&S expanded its publishing program to include the German version of the cartoon comics series Dork Tower by John Kovalic . With the vampire thrillers by Tanya Huff , he also ventured into non-game-related fiction . From 2004 to 2009 the publisher was also the German licensee of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons by Wizards of the Coast . In addition, the German version of the Warhammer Fantasy RPG has been part of the product range since 2005 .
In the summer of 2006, due to a lack of sales, the publisher announced a discontinuation of the German translation of all world of darkness products and a stronger orientation towards Dungeons & Dragons , the Warhammer fantasy role-playing game and fiction. At the end of November 2008, the publisher announced on its website that after December 31, 2008, it would no longer be in possession of the license from Dungeons & Dragons .
Since 2007 the publisher has been giving new authors and ideas in the field of fantasy a chance as part of the origin series ; the very first origin title, Oliver Plaschka's Fairwater or Die Spiegel des Herr Bartholomew , won the German Fantastic Prize 2008 as the best debut novel and Ju Honisch followed this model with Das Obsidianherz 2009.
In the years that followed, the company dedicated itself entirely to fantastic fiction with occasional excursions into its old field of activity, the storytelling game. In doing so, the publisher attaches great importance not to overly accommodating the mainstream of the genre, but rather to focus on the quality of the stories.
In 2016, Feder & Schwert was taken over by Uhrwerk Verlag . In 2019 he announced bankruptcy.
Products
The company stands primarily for the high-quality German-language implementation of various role-playing licenses such as White Wolf's World of Darkness , Wizards of the Coasts Dungeons & Dragons and Games Workshops, Warhammer Fantasy RPG and Warhammer 40,000 - Shadowhunters and Free Traders .
In addition, the company relocates game-related fiction to the Dungeons & Dragons game worlds, Eberron and Forgotten Realms . With the origin series, the publisher has been publishing fantastic novels by young German-speaking authors since 2007. At the end of 2009 Feder & Schwert founded the sub-label Steampunk in order to give this literary genre more attention in Germany. Since 2010, the publisher has ventured into the crime scene for the first time and publishes novels without any fantastic reference, but remains essentially true to fantastic literature.
