Embraced - Clan der Vampire (also: Kindred - Clan der Vampire or Clan der Vampire ) is an eight-part television series based on the pen & paper role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade .

action

The series is set in San Francisco . Undetected vampires live among the people of the city and are organized in different clans. They call themselves blood relatives. An ancient set of rules, the “masquerade”, prevents mortal discovery. The Ventura "Prince" Julien Luna is in charge of the tour. He rules the vampires and maintains the masquerade. A council of clans, consisting of the leaders of the Gangrel, Toreador, Brujah and Nosferatu, as well as his predecessor Archon Raine, are at his side. The prince is partially in conflict with the other clan leaders who are trying to deny him his claim to leadership, first and foremost the Brujah, who have committed themselves to the criminal life. He also falls in love with a mortal reporter. A detective gets behind the masquerade through a vampire lover and tries to uphold the law in town.

Characters

main characters

Julian Luna
(played by Mark Frankel ) belongs to the Ventura clan and is the prince of the city. Outwardly, he is a wealthy, seedy businessman who is very wealthy. His claim to leadership in the vampire society is mainly challenged by the Brujah. He lives with his former lover and Toreador boss Lillie Langtry on a magnificent estate. His relationship with reporter Caitlin Byrne weighs on their relationship.
Caitlin Byrne
(played by Kelly Rutherford ) is a human, ambitious, and adamant reporter. She is in love with Julien Luna, but initially keeps her distance. She doesn't know anything about his vampire existence, but her reports lead her again and again into the vampire society without her getting any secrets.
Lillie Langtry
(played by Stacy Haiduk ) is the leader of the Toreador clan and the owner of the Haven nightclub , which is the gathering place for all vampire clans except the Brujahs. She is Luna's former lover.
Detective Frank Kohanek
(played by C. Thomas Howell ) is a human detective who discovers the secrets of the masquerade through the death of his vampire lover Alexandra, a former friend of the prince. Through Alexandra he is under Luna's protection, but he distrusts the vampires and wants to protect mortals from the threat of the vampires. His partner Sonny Toussaint (played by Erik King ) is also a blood relative, who tries to protect him while maintaining the masquerade.
Sasha
(played by Brigid Walsh ) was the last human descendant of Julien Luna and is a rebel. After the death of her grandfather, Luna takes her into his house and tries to protect her from the vampires. Sasha falls in love with Cash, but is turned by a Brujah. Torn between her love for Cash and her clan hostility, she stands between the fronts.

Supporting characters

Cash
(played by Channon Roe ) is the leader of the Gangrel. He is hired by Luna as a bodyguard and falls in love with Sasha.
Daedalus
(played by Jeff Kober ) is a Nosferatu and therefore a member of a clan of extremely deformed and terrifying vampires. He lives in Luna's basement and is his closest confidante. Despite his ugliness, he has retained a great deal of humanity.
Eddie Fiori
(played by Brian Thompson ) is the leader of the Brujah and is hostile to the prince. When the conflicts between Luna and him come to a head, he is killed. He will be succeeded by a younger Brujah named Cameron.
Archon Raine
(played by Patrick Bauchau ) is Ventura and former prince of the city. He is the producer of Luna and trained him to be his executor. After Luna succeeded him as prince and united the clans, he acted as an advisor. Due to the blood guilt that he had taken on himself, he was killed by the new Brujah leader Cameron.

background

Aaron Spelling, successful producer with Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place, tried his hand at "Clan of Vampires" on a vampire series with a significant amount of soap opera . The material is part of the horror genre, but in addition to the action elements, the protagonists' relationship level also plays a major role. After filming was finished, Mark Frankel died in a serious motorcycle accident. It was therefore decided to discontinue the moderately successful series.

In Germany, RTL II secured the broadcasting rights and broadcast the pilot on January 7, 1997 at 11 p.m. An episode was then broadcast weekly. It was broadcast for a second time on December 12, 2001.

The series is based on the pen and paper role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade , but has been partially adapted for television. The changes include, for example, that the vampires in the series can move around during the day if they have drunk enough blood. In the German synchronization the clan of Julien Luna was changed from Ventrue to Ventura. In addition, not all clans of the template are represented by a long way.
