Kage Genevieve Baker (born June 10, 1952 in Hollywood , California , † January 31, 2010 in Pismo Beach , California) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer.

Life

She was born in Hollywood, California and lived in Pismo Beach most of the time. Before her time as a book author, she worked at the theater and taught ancient forms of English.

She is best known for her cycle "The Company", which consists primarily of historical time travel novels. Her first short stories were published in Asimov's Science Fiction in 1997, as was her first novel "In The Garden of Iden". She has been nominated for various prizes and received the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award for her short novel The Empress of Mars . After her death, she was subsequently awarded both the Nebula Award and the Locus Award for her short novel The Women of Nell Gwynne’s (German: Die Frauen von Nell Gwynnes) .

Her first name, which is unusual in English, is a combination of the names of her two grandmothers, Kate and Genevieve.
