The Pathfinder role-playing game is a pen & paper role-playing game developed by Paizo Publishing . The game is based on the Open Game License of the Dungeons & Dragons set of rules in version 3.5. The role-playing game has been distributed in German by Ulisses Spiele since 2009 . Paizo Publishing released the second edition of Pathfinder in August 2019. The German version will be published by Ulisses Spiele in March 2020.
Pathfinder RPG
Pathfinder is an RPG based on the classic Dungeons & Dragons (version 3.5). The developers of Pathfinder dedicated the game to the inventors of D&D Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson . Due to the Open Game License, the rules required to play are available free of charge. In addition, other edited and elaborately designed materials can be acquired in German and English, such as the basic rules. There is also a beginner's box with a player's book and a game master's book as well as other game-enhancing additional materials such as a floor plan, cardboard displays, dice, prefabricated and empty character sheets. Furthermore, with the "Pathfinder Society", Paizo offers a game community in which an organized and collaborative role play is possible. There is a certain set of rules for community play, for example the use of the purchase system to create characters.
Golarion game world
The Golarion game world, which has been extensively expanded through several publications, includes such a large number of common and also more unusual fantasy clichés that it is also known as the "fantasy kitchen sink". In addition to the usual set pieces from the European world of myths and legends and the works of JRR Tolkien , there are also references to Chinese, Japanese or Indian myths, to the Cthulhu myth by HP Lovecraft , to topics from science fiction or to He-Man -Universe with high-tech barbarians.
Spread of the game
In the third quarter of 2010, the Pathfinder role-playing game in the US managed to draw on par with the market leader Dungeons & Dragons. In the second quarter of 2011, Pathfinder overtook Dungeons & Dragons and was the undisputed number 1 of the most successful role-playing games until mid-2014. It was not until autumn 2014 that Dungeons & Dragons was able to regain market leadership in the USA and hold it until today (as of spring 2016). The translations and proofreading are carried out by a team of freelancers, currently under the direction of Ulrich-Alexander Schmidt. In mid-2015, the translation of the adventure trail “Eisengötter”, which appeared in 2016, was secured through crowdfunding.
Pathfinder products (selection)
In addition to the rule volumes, there are campaign volumes, almanacs, manuals, game volumes and additional material. The distinction between almanacs and manuals affects the target group; Almanacs are intended for the game master, manuals for the players. Another important source of the Pathfinder game are the "Modules" and the "Adventure Paths". Each adventure path comprises a campaign of six volumes each that accompanies the players over a longer period of time. These volumes appear on a monthly basis; In the English original there are already 16 adventure trails (as of April 2016). The adventure trails with accompanying volumes have been published in German since 2011.

Other media
On September 25, 2018 was based on the adventure path kingmaker and the Pathfinder rules that computer RPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker of Owlcat Games for Windows , Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux released. Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a classic isometric RPG with a 3D graphics engine in the style of Baldur's Gate . Part of the game is the opportunity to build and defend your own kingdom. The author of the game, Chris Avellone , was already involved in the games Planescape: Torment , Knights of the Old Republic II , Neverwinter Nights 2 and Pillars of Eternity .
Pathfinder 2nd Edition
In August 2019, Paizo released Pathfinder 2nd Edition. This represents a further development and revision of the first edition of Pathfinder. In the system, many developments from the first version were implemented in general mechanics of the game, so that there are basic rules for many classes and archetypes, such as: B. Class archetypes or ability archetypes.
The German translations are distributed by Ulisses-Spiele.
